The Challenge

The Stephan Hawking Perimeter Institute is a premier independent research center located in Waterloo. The project revolved around a 55,000 square foot expansion to the Perimeter Institute for theoretical physics. The challenge was to find an energy efficient system that encompassed both the old and expansion buildings with individual room zone control without large air ducts.

The Solution

A water cooled VRF heat recovery condenser system with individual room ducted fan coil units connected to a central control system was the ideal solution. A 120 ton water source heat recovery/boiler/cooling tower system was installed. The project has attained LEED Silver Certification and as such has provided an extremely energy efficient HVAC system.
